This site is located in the Eastatoe Gap Quadrangle in northern Pickens County, South Carolina in the Jocassee Gorges Preserve. It is approximately a 300 meter square (9 hectares).The research is being conducted with permission from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and is sanctioned by the Carolina Vegetation Survey. The principal investigator is Tom Goforth, independent researcher and owner of Crow Dog Native Ferns and Gardens in northern Pickens County, SC. The project is part of the research department of Crow Dog Native Ferns and Gardens.

| The research began in late August, 2006 and will continue through 2007. University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill senior Biology major Laura Boggess is a research assistant in the project as a participant in the UNC Carolina Environmental Program at the Highlands (NC) Biological Station. |
