Crow Dog Native Ferns and Gardens grows native ferns exclusively through spore propagation. The availability of 4" ferns and gallon ferns depends on spore propagation cycles. With the exception of Osmundaceae ferns, spores are sown from mid-summer to late fall depending on the maturity of species spores. Young sporophytes are reared in a heated lab over the winter in gametophyte containers and subsequently in plug trays.
Orders for may be made at any time. Orders can be shipped from March 15th to September 30th. of each year. New crop 4" pots will be sold after their root systems and tops fill the pots. Some of the 4" ferns of all species are potted up to gallon size in early summer and sold as gallon ferns in the summer and fall after growth increases. 4" and gallon ferns that are not sold during the first year of growth are overwintered in unheated greenhouses or in outdoor spaces for sale in the subsequent year. This availability list will be updated regularly. |
